Gateway helps US park rise from the ashes

Gateway Ticketing Systems has been selected to be the ticketing and access control provider for the soon-to-reopen Royal Gorge Bridge & Park in Colorado, US.

A devastating fire swept through the park last summer, destroying 48 of its 52 buildings, although the bridge was largely unscathed. It is the highest suspension bridge in North America and offers spectacular views of the gorge below.

Gateway’s Galaxy product suite was selected for ticketing, retail, food and beverage and access control, with the park expecting a “dramatic” increase in annual visitors over the 300,000 level it previously reached following the installation of a range of new attractions in time for the park’s re-opening in August.

These include a new visitor center, one of the world’s longest single-span aerial gondolas, an over-the-gorge zip line and children’s playland, and a Sky Coaster thrill ride.

“We needed a system with robust web store, reseller and resource management functionality along with the ability to accommodate not only our guests, but our trade partners,” said Jeri Neiens, director of administrative services at the park. “Galaxy was the only point of sale system that could provide all of the stated criteria/priorities.”

Neiens also said that the Gateway solution would be able to grow with the business. He cited a later phase of development that will see an amphitheatre built, and will require reserve seating in the software system – a product that Gateway will be able to provide.
